We meet in a first floor room which is only accessible by stairs.
Other events and trips such as to museums, planetariums etc are arranged on varying days depending on availability and as arranged by the group.
This group involves a mix of presentations by speakers (members or guests), visits to relevant local places of interest, practical stargazing, films and discussion.
It is suitable for those with little to no knowledge of astronomy - all that is needed is a basic interest in the subject. As well as scientific information about stars and planets the group may cover the history of astronomical discovery, space travel and exploration, mythology and folklore and any other relevant topics the group members decide upon.
Members pay their own entrance fees to museums, planetariums etc and are not expected to attend every meeting or visit.
1st - 9th February was National Astronomy Week with the theme "Chasing the Moon" and a few members of the Astronomy group went to Victoria Park in Bristol to view the moon and some of the planets which were visible.
One member was able to bring his telescope, which provided some great views of Jupiter and its moons and lovely close-ups of the surface of our moon.
