Bristol u3a

Celebrating 40 years

u3a

Bristol u3a is for all older people who want to keep active in mind and body, enjoy socialising, and are either retired or no longer in full time employment.

It is run entirely by its members. There are now 2000 of us so if you join us you'll find many opportunities to enjoy learning and to try new activities, while having fun in the company of new friends. The emphasis is on a desire to learn and a willingness to share your skills and abilities. All that is needed is enthusiasm, participation and mutual respect.

In 1984 Tony, a u3a member, found a 2nd World War shipwreck off Swanage in Dorset. He recovered some artifacts including the bell and ship's motto. The wreck was called the HMS Carentan, named after a town in Normandy, and Tony managed to return the items to Carentan.
