We meet in the Restaurant, Sommerville House, which is on the ground floor, straight past the entrance, with level access. Tea and coffee can be bought from the machine and costs £1. Please use the machine as it is part of the reason we are able to use the Restaurant.
This is an opportunity to look more closely at some of the great works of European high-art music, exploring not only the structures (how they 'work') but their position culturally, historically and politically.
There is also a chance to investigate the odd nooks and crannies that go undiscovered as we listen to this great music.
We might examines Elgar's 'Cello Concerto' - a requiem for what - or whom?; Strauss 'Four Last Songs' a portrait of dying in Music; Handel and Bach at Christmas; Standing on the Shoulders of Musical Giants: what connects Mendelssohn, Bach and Elgar?
