Quite a lot of people gave up history lessons at school at about the age of 14, and feel they missed out on understanding all kinds of things about the past of Bristol, of Britain and of the wider world. This group is a small attempt to fill in some of the gaps. 

We choose a topic each month, and members of the group do whatever research they can before the next meeting, when we all share what we  have discovered. We have already learned a great deal about topics including the English Civil War; the American War of Independence and the making of the US Constitution; the Agrarian revolution in Britain; the UK Poor Law; UK electoral reform in the nineteenth century and we are currently deep into the growth of industries in Bristol since about 1800.

The possibilities for future topics are endless, but we will decide between us from month to month.
