Funding News
One of our aims is to make Bristol u3a a more diverse organisation and we are trying to reach communities where we have fewer members. Initially our initiatives focused on Kingswood, and Filton and Bradley Stoke, then last year on two contrasting areas of South Bristol namely Bedminster and Stockwood where we have increased our membership quite significantly.
Our current 'outreach' work is focused on inner East Bristol. We have new members in St Werburghs, where we have set up an enthusiastic social group. We have spent the summer of 2025 at Easton Community Centre and in the autumn we aim to spend a dedicated period of time at the Wellspring Centre in Barton Hill. Each area needs a slightly different approach. In some areas it is easy to engage potential members, while in others we have to think outside the box.
Funding has come from Bristol City Council's Social Action Programme through Quartet Community Foundation, and South Gloucestershire's Community Action Group. The Executive Committee has also set a small amount of money aside for our efforts in East Bristol. We have been able to offer new members a discounted membership.

Bristol u3a celebrates its 40th anniversary

The Lord Mayor of Bristol attended our September meeting to help us celebrate with a quiz about life in 1984, a raffle, quiz and a buffet lunch.
